Brief description of site and current use
The Silesian Industrial and Technological Park was founded by virtue of agreement concluded on 17th of July 2003 among different stakeholders: the City of Ruda Śląska, the City of Świętochłowice, Inwestor Sp. z o.o. [Ltd], Agency for Development in Ruda Śląska PPUH, Rudpol - OPA" Sp. z o.o.[production, service and trade, Ltd] in Ruda Śląska, Carbo Energia Sp. z o.o [group of industrial heat plants, Ltd] in Ruda Śląska. The project was executed with the cooperation of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. The project has also support by Marshall of Silesian Province, Agency of Industry Development, Ministry of Economy and Labour.
Mission and main motto of the project: “Balancing investment attraction of Silesia with a tradition of doing a good job”. Main purposes of the activity: obtaining external investors, development of post- industrial areas, economic and social revitalization of degraded industrial districts, creating new workplaces, development and modernization of infrastructure already located on restructured areas. The development of the area and buildings of the former KWK "Wawel" coalmine are divided into three functional zones: (1) The main square with the map of the Upper-Silesian Agglomeration on the tile floor, (2) Car parks and access roads, (3)"Silesian Carpet" - the main pedestrian tract with an axial entrance tract called "Silesianeum", with an artistic element located nearby, and "informational paths" diverging sideways, ended with information boards.
