Brief description of site and current use

The rehabilitation of this site is one of the first examples of this type of process that have been successfully implemented in Milan city.

The project, presented for Bicocca and also for Ansaldo (metallurgic industry company) areas, has been promoted by the private company Pirelli in 1985. The main industrial purpose of Pirelli company is represented by the production of pneumatic tires.

The soil contamination of the site was related to the presence of asbestos, hydrocarbons, metals, PAH, PCB and halogenated organic compounds.

The area was rehabilitated through deconstruction activities, remediation, reuse of appropriate structures and materials and construction of new infrastructures. The works required by the project and entire process ended in 2005.
