Brief description of site and current use

There is a long history of this site. Former Cartesian monastery was founded already in the end of 14th century. In the end of 18th century monastery was abolished and changed to military barracks.  In the second half of 20th century the site was used by state company called ZELENINA. Object was used mainly for ripening of exotic fruits. In the end of 19th century part of the site obtained Brno University of Technology and in the year 2000 they bought rest of it and 2 years later they started the renovation.

Brno University of Technology bought it because of the need of development of new established Faculty of Information Technology, which had already used the site.

Couple of new buildings were added to this brownfield site. Nowadays they are construction of a building for research centre, which will be connected with information technology IT4Inovations.

Buildings are furnished with modern technology. Site includes also canteen, restaurant, accommodation for teachers (former monks separate houses) and PhD students, former brewery was changed for a place of theatre performances and music concert. Therefore the regeneration project was successful and the location is attractive for new incoming students and every year more students study there.
