Brief description of site and current use
This rehabilitated site is an example of brownfield regeneration where public and private interests come to a common spontaneous agreement.
The project, promoted by the private company Fiat, started in 1984 and ended few years ago.
The main industrial purpose of Fiat company in this area was represented by the production of mechanical parts of motor vehicles.
The soil contamination of the site was related to the presence of mineral oils and some metals (Zn, Cr, Pb, As).
The area was rehabilitated through:
- deconstruction,
- remediation,
- reuse of appropriate structures of architectural value,
- and construction of new infrastructures.
The existing area is targeted for the following land uses: residential, recreational (park), commercial, administrative, services for public and private sector.
In particular, in the rehabilitated area, it has been located the new Courthouse, some Florence University Faculties related to social sciences and studies, a hotel, commercial and residential buildings, administrative offices, parking places and a park of 12 ha.
