Brief description of site and current use
Caballero Fabriek, formal cigarette factory was abandoned since 1995 when the production moved to Zevenaar. The whole complex was then rarely hired for a long time. In 2003 the municipality of The Hague decided to redevelop the area to multi-tenant building. The Caballero Fabriek has a good connection to the fast way A12. Project draft was divided into two stages. In the first stage was constructed space for small businesses and offices comprises nearly 8.000 sqm, in the second phase rest of the halls were rebuild for large entrepreneurs.
The factory is located in the formal industrial area Binckhorst in the city of den Hague (app. 490 thousands of inhabitants). Project of redevelopment of the Caballero Fabriek was funded by a European grant and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The total investment into the project was 10.000.000,- €. Conversion of the Caballero Fabriek has proved to be a great success, spaces for companies were rented almost immediately upon completion. Even with the very limited budget creating this innovative business centre was possible. The project was winner of the New Town Award.Original use – basic description
