User experiences of Timbre Brownfield Prioritization Tool + Phytoremediation and non-knowledge

In the upcoming special issue of the Journal for Environmental Management guest-edited by Prof. Paul Bardos, also two more or less to TIMBRE related articles will be included:

Stephan Bartke (UFZ, UBA), Stanislav Martinát (IOG), Petr Klusácek (IOG), Lisa Pizzol (UNIVE), Filip Alexandrescu (UNIVE, RIQL), Bohumil Frantál (IOG), Andrea Critto (UNIVE) and Alex Zable (UNIVE) address "Targeted selection of brownfields from portfolios for sustainable regeneration: User experiences from five cases testing the Timbre Brownfield Prioritization Tool". Their highlights meniton:

  • Practical use of the Timbre Brownfield Prioritization Tool (TBPT) is tested in five cases by end-users
  • The TBPT is found to enable classification of sites according to targeted reuse potential
  • The TBPT detects hidden reuse potentials and suuports brownfield portfolio management
  • Versality of the TBPT is associated with data preparation investment
  • The TBPT can contribute to more sustainable regeneration of brownfields

A second contribution to the Journal was not directly related to TIMBRE, but the author Alena Bleicher (UFZ) was inspired by work in the project to think in her article about "Technological change in revitalization - Phytoremediation and the role of nonknowledge". Her highlights mention:

  • Remediation practice has to be modified to use plant-based technologies
  • Dealing with nonknowledge is central in remediation practice
  • New strategies to deal with nonknowledge are needed when using phytoremediation
