Brief description of site and current use
In 1938, a new administrative building was completed for the needs of the film factory. Its dimensions astonish even today, and its architecture is reminiscent of the IG Farben House in Frankfurt a. M. by Hans Poelzig. Originally intended as the seat of the research departments, it was used by IG Farben as administrative headquarters until 1945. By 1961, many qualified employees had left the Wolfen film factory for the West, and the growing separation of the East German economy from the West also had grave repercussions.
A new, joint central town hall was set up at the former IG Farben headquarters at Wolfen (interesting is that it should served as a symbol of reunion - Bitterfeld and Wolfen merged to one city on 1st July 2007). To deal with this, Bitterfeld-Wolfen coined the terms Network Town and Network Region, which rely on sharing the workload based on cooperative and networked activities in the districts and neighboring municipalities.
