Artificial Neural Network

An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is a mathematical model inspired by biological neural networks. An ANN consists of an interconnected group of artificial neurons, which processes information using a connectionist approach to computation. In most cases a neural network is an adaptive system changing its structure during a learning phase. Neural networks are used for modelling complex relationships between inputs and outputs or to find patterns in data. A specific ANN methodology has been developed and implemented in the Timbre Expert System in order to provide each end-user, for each search session, with a set of web-links to relevant documents ranked according to a set of criteria (related to end-user’s requirements and specifications, as well as to evaluations of the documents provided by previous end-users).
