This field site is located in Brno (the second largest city of the Czech Republic, South Moravian Region). The whole area can be found south of the historical core of the city behind the main railway station, which is typical of former industrial use (smelting pots, textile industries etc.).

Vaňkovka regeneration project, a small part of whole area of so called South Center of the Brno, is perceived by the local population as a successful example of brownfield regeneration. Now it works as a shopping mall (operated by multinational company) and in one part galleries, an educational center and NGOs are located. However Vaňkovka, is surrounded by numerous brownfields formerly used for industry. Its location within a densely settled area causes conflicts of interests. Brownfields of Brno South Center are attractive for investors. Parts of the area are populated by people of a low social status; mainly the Roma community.

The South Center covers an area of approx. 192 hectares and there are 58 hectares which are ready for new development. As for functional structure; 12 % is planned for housing from which 4 % for housing, 63 % for business and services, 7 % of area is for manufacturing, 13 % for relaxation and 5 % for infrastructure.
